Telly Coma

Sidenote: from the suggestions offered by google chrome when writing the title, this is the seventh blog I've written which has a title beginning with T. This has nothing to do with my post, so we shall continue!

Television does have that effect of absorbing you. It's really not pleasant. The most obvious sign I've had of this is when watching TV online in full screen when the picture fades to black: the images disappear and you see nothing but your own slack jawed face reflected in the screen. Really unattractive; it makes me want to get up and do something.

As well as the physical symptoms, TV even has an effect on your body. Through rigorous testing, scientists have discovered that your state of mind and body while watching telly is similar to that of a coma patient. I wish I remembered whom this was so I could quote and link, but no such luck. Anyways. Your digestive system slows down, your body moves less, your breathing and heartrate slows: in fact, if one compares Person X sitting on the couch doing nothing to Person Y sitting on the couch watching television, Person Y will only burn 2/3 the calories of Person X in a given period of time. that's right- television is bad for your health. Even worse than doing nothing at all. Get outside and play!

  1. :O that's crazy. And you know the most random facts XD But I'm sure it depends on what you're watching. Hope the same thing doesn't happen with the internet :P I spend too much time on it. Actually, I'm swearing off the internet until I get my uni acceptance. Seriously, I'm going to disable it and work on my portfolio (unless I MUST use it for an assignment). So I'm off until early May, and I'll return either in incredible happiness or suicidal depression. Goodbye for a month, mates <3
